Lehman Gets More Bids for Investment-Management Unit (Update4)

Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. received two additional bids for today’s auction of its investment- management business beyond a $2.15 billion offer from Bain Capital LLC and Hellman & Friedman LLC, a lawyer said.

Former Kirkland Bankruptcy Head Returns to Firm

Former Kirkland & Ellis bankruptcy head James Sprayregen has returned to that firm after a three-year stint as co-head of Goldman Sachs & Co.'s restructuring group. Sprayregen had worked at Kirkland for 16 years, heading the firm's Chapter 11 representation of United Airlines. The past several months have seen a string of refugees seeking to return to law firms from beleaguered finance houses.

Law Firm Productivity Down in Third Quarter -- Too Many Associates, Too Little to Do

Associates at large law firms have too much time on their hands. According to statistics from the West Peer Monitor Index, a measure of legal market conditions, large law firms had their lowest productivity yet this year during the third quarter of 2008. Overall, law firm productivity was down by 4.5 percent in the third quarter, but it sank by 6.5 percent at larger Am Law 100 firms.
